Hi, I’m Al.
I’m a wellness content creator who loves writing, food, and traveling.
I’m a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grew up in Cleveland, Ohio; went to Purdue University in Indiana (Boiler Up!); and after graduating with a BS in Nuclear Engineering and getting commissioned as a Naval Officer, moved to San Diego, California, for my first tour. I moved to the East coast for my second tour out of Norfolk, Virginia. After the Navy, I headed overseas and am currently living in Dubai.
While in the Navy, I was put in charge of a division, a leadership position that few people just outside of college could ever hope for. I also got to drive warships in grueling 4-5 hour rotating day and night watches, qualifying for different watch stations and ultimately my Surface Warfare Pin, and rotating through multiple divisional billets.
I became particularly fascinated by the Navy’s physical regulations. Soon enough, I found myself more fit than at any time in my life. I realized that the benefits of a healthy lifestyle extended beyond just being in shape. I found that I had more energy, could handle stress better, and just felt better overall. My interest in a healthy lifestyle grew day-by-day. It’s no surprise that eventually one of my duties became Command Fitness Leader (CFL).
After the Navy, I was drawn deeper into health and wellness. For three years, I immersed myself in books and scientific articles. My careful study compared and analyzed all the information I could get my hands on. This research eventually became the basis for this website.
You’ll usually find me hanging out at libraries or bookstores researching and writing, in restaurants across the world tasting new and exciting dishes, or in the woods or mountains hiking and taking in the fresh air.
